Majestic Hoops League House Rules
Game Rules
The game will be played according to standard college basketball rules, with the following exceptions:
There will be only 3 timeouts per game, per team. You get 1 reset timeout that stops the clock and you’re allowed to sub, but you do not get to huddle. To signal a reset timeout, make an X mark with your hands over your chest. A reset timeout can be called at anytime during the game.
The clock will run continuously until the last three minutes of the second half, and the last minute of the 1st half.
If the score differential is 9 or less the clock will stop on every whistle starting at the 3 minute mark of the 2nd half.
Overtime will be two minutes long, with the clock stopping on all whistles in the last minute.
If the game is still tied after overtime, there will be a double overtime period. Double overtime will be sudden death; the first team to score a basket wins.
If a timeout is called in the backcourt before dribbling the ball, the team may advance the ball to the frontcourt, the ball may only be advanced if you are the team who called the timeout.
Players will foul out at 6 fouls, at which he can no longer play unless the team only has 5 players. If the team has 5 players and one fouls out, if the player who is fouled out commits an additional foul, it will result in a technical foul. The opposing team will get two free throws and possession of the ball.
If the player who is fouled out commits an offensive foul, the result will still be a technical.
If the ball hits the top, side, or bottom of the backboard; the ball is IN bounds and play will continue. The ball is only out of bounds if the ball goes over the top of the backboard.
Technical fouls are counted as personal and team fouls.
If two players have the same jersey number on the same team (fault not due to league); the result will be a technical foul
If a player’s jersey is not a similar color to the jersey of their team, that will result in a technical foul.
If a player comes in a different jersey number than the one listed on the roster; that will result in a technical foul as well.
No chains will be allowed to be worn during the game, earrings are allowed.
The game will be officiated by two referees. Their decisions are final.
Players are expected to play within the spirit of the game and to respect their opponents, the referees, and the fans.
Any player who commits a flagrant foul or who engages in fighting will be ejected from the game and will be suspended from future games.
Quick throw ins will be implemented, strictly on out of bounds violations. When the ball goes out of bounds, the ref does not need to receive the ball for the ball to be inbounded. The ref will point the direction of the team who has possession of the ball, and the player is able to take it and immediately inbound from the spot where the ball went out of bounds.
This rule is not applicable to any other types of violations.
Any other violation, the ball must go to the ref before inbounding the ball.
The only exception to the quick throw in, is if there is a substitution; then the ref will whistle the player in and the ball must be given to the ref.
An intentional foul on a fast break results in one free throw and possession for the fouled team. This rule does not apply in the final two minutes of regulation or in overtime.
All players must wear matching team-colored jerseys. Any player with a missing number, repeated number, mismatched number from the league site, or off-color jersey will receive a technical foul.
League Rules
All players must sign a waiver of liability before participating in the league.
If you only have 3 players at the start of the game, the game can begin with the approval of both teams. If the team with the proper amount of players would not like to play 5 on 3; then the team with 3 players gets a forfeit.
A game may begin 4 on 5, and that game will be counted towards the record regardless.
Players must wear proper basketball attire, including a jersey with a number on the back.
Players must be respectful of the referees and the other players at all times.
Fighting will not be tolerated. Any player who engages in fighting will be ejected from the game and WILL be suspended from future games.
The league has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for smoking/fighting/drinking. Smoking/fighting/drinking is NOT allowed anywhere on site, including the basketball courts.
No roster additions can be made after the third week of games, except for the below exceptions
Each team will have 2 safety spots for injuries
If a player is injured, a substitution can be made for him at any point in the season.
If the injured player is able to return, then he must take the spot of his substitution (If substitution was made after the third week).
In order for players to be eligible for playoffs, the player has to have played at least two of the games in the season, unless injury occurs.
Playoffs are one game elimination.
Top 4 seeds make the playoffs in each division
No refunds will be made whatsoever once the first game starts.
The league reserves the right to modify these rules at any time.
If a team were to forfeit a game, the opposing team may use the court for the hour.
If a player accumulates 4 technical fouls in one season, he will be suspended the next game; 5th technical foul results in a 2 game suspension; and a 6th technical foul results in a lifetime ban from the league
If a player throws ANY punch on the premises (parking lot, court, lobby, etc.), immediate ejection, and possible ban from the league.
Nobody can leave the bench (fans/players)
*The league has a ZERO tolerance policy for fighting. Any player who engages in fighting will be suspended indefinitely. The league also reserves the right to take further disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion from the league, for any player who engages in fighting.
*There is a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for drugs or alcohol. Any alcohol or drugs found on premises may result in suspension of the league in whole. Premises include the parking lot and the gym, any part of the property. If any player/team is found with any drugs or alcohol, the team/player is subject to suspension above.
